Elan School in Poland Maine, training "problem" youth the sadistic way

Elan School was a very controversial behavior modification program in Poland, Androscoggin County, Maine. The children who were sent there were "classified as Emotionally Disturbed, Learning Disabled (mild to moderate), Other Health Impaired or who exhibit disruptive behaviors associated with ADHD and/or Oppositional Defiant Disorder." The school prides itself in having counselors trained in the use of "physical restraints" and does not believe in the use of medication claiming,"Providing Life Skills Through Education and Compassion Without Medication." The "graduates" of Elan, eventually got the program shut down, much like the "graduates" of Straight, Inc started in Saint Petersburg, Pinellas County, Florida did.
The poor children that were "educated" at Elan School were sent there with "ADHD and/or Oppositional Defiant Disorder" and then given controversial "confrontational" therapy, without the use of medication per their own website. This of course was very detrimental to patients that were treated there who had underlying chemical imbalances in the brain. The worst part of the whole program is that they hired some of the "graduates" of the Elan program as councilors to perpetuate the cycle of vicious behavior modification without the use of medication that does not treat the underlying causes of their problems, very dangerous indeed.
The graduates of Elan School appear to be roughly categorized into the categories of:
1.) Activists determined to shut down any similar programs
2.) In jail or dead
3.) People emotionally scared by their ordeal, but afraid to talk about it being afraid that they may be sent back to a similar program.
4.) Apologetic graduates that may have had severe mental problems that needed medical attention, but were not given it and are afraid to speak out against the atrocities they received for fear of retribution.

lol I have had to become friends with my memories
For some unknown reason I was blessed with an explictly good memory .I am not worried about losing any of my memories nor will my story change. It is what I went thru ,thru my eyes and what I experienced.
I do not have the time to sit down and crank out 200 pages of experience,lol, at this time , maybe I should simply scribble out a book. I will answer any questions that anyone may have concerning elan.
JR I totally agree that the elan program was not the place for everyone ,the evidence are the peers that are dead from suicide, rather than seek additional (abuse ) help from elan. It was a program that was based on making money for the owners. Saving human beings was an after thought.
It saved money on expenditures by employeeing people that had no formal training ,the only training that the employees had was that they themselves had gone thru the program and learned how to beat up human beings both mentally and physically.
Elan was a one size fits all type of program regardless of what your issues were . It used brutal tools of compliance to make the residents (as we were called ) fit the program. It did not have individualized treatment programs ,this would have been costly and would have required elan and the men that owned it to spend more to have qualified trained professionals that could deal with human beings that had serious issues. This would have seriously cut into the profit margins. the way Elan was set up the profits were maximized .
The Elan One Corporation was about making money , saving human beings was way on down its list, sure it could be waved about like a flag (saving human beings ), but make no bones about it ,elan was about making money and making money fast .
The founders found away to incorporate an abusive treatment center based on a cult. It was insane. There is a lot to this story about this place in the back woods of Maine where no one could hear you scream. I hope to be able to tell my story eventually over time .
