WOODSTOCK – A judge refused to lower the $100,000 bond for a McHenry man who prosecutors say faces life in prison on charges alleging that he sexually assaulted two young children.

Joseph D. Losch, 29, is charged in McHenry County with four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child.

The alleged victims are younger than 13 and related to Losch, who was arrested on Friday and has since remained in custody. According to the criminal complaint, the abuse occurred from May 24 through August 6.

He faces similar charges in Iron County, Wis. and additional charges may also be filed in Lake County, Assistant State's Attorney Kate Lenhard said.

Losch, who said he has been living in Bartlett with his parents, is out on bond on the Wisconsin charges and was placed under house arrest, allowed only to leave for work or if one of his parents is with him.

Losch's attorney, Kevin Talbot, said his client has been attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and does not have a criminal record.

Lenhard said that if the case goes to trial, prosecutors would present a confession. Talbot said it was actually a "so-called" confession because Losch was so intoxicated that he had to be placed in a separated jail cell.

Citing the seriousness of the alleged offense and the fact that Losch is out on bond in another state, McHenry County Judge Sharon Prather said the bond would remain at $100,000.

I sympathized with the women in aa who, having been repeatedly told that their sobriety must come first, and believing that their sobriety was depedent on them getting to meetings (again because this is what is heard in meetings), would bring their children with them because they didn't have a partner to leave them with. These women were in a no-win situation. They knew they were exposing their kids to potentially disturbing monologues. What they didn't all know was that they were also potentially exposing their kids to sexual predators. A woman I occasionally spoke with was horrified to hear, what she described as, grooming behavior directed at one of her kids from a respected member. She became vocal in her criticisms, but received no backup or support - just silence in response.
