It's AA or die.

That is quite some motivation for the vulnerable drinker ain't it.

AA or Die! Excellent fear motivator to join the cult of AA (a/k/a The hokey religious cult)

Legend has it they even print it on shirts to wear at meetings.

It would appear that Arizona AA didn't get the memo that you don't say or have meetings themed after "Do the Steps or Die" in the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous.

It would appear that in Australia they even have psychiatrists that tell you to "Do the Steps or Die."

Dr Stephen Jurd, psychiatrist from Sydney: 12 step facilitation in action

Stephen Jurd talked about the the AA messages: Don't drink and go to meetings, its that easy. Know clichés, know philosophy, eg one day at a time (avoids projection of difficulties). Do the steps or die (relapse can be fatal).

Stephen spoke about the Minnesota Model.

Addiction is a disease with clinical features, genetics, natural history, response to treatment and biological markers.

The large MATCH study shows that AA keeps people sober over a long time period and abstinence from alcohol is strongly associated with involvement with AA

Yes, it is well past time that Alcoholics Anonymous is held responsible for the harm it causes people.
