Stephen Jurd talked about the the AA messages: Don't drink and go to meetings, its that easy. Know clichés, know philosophy, eg one day at a time (avoids projection of difficulties). Do the steps or die (relapse can be fatal).
Stephen spoke about the Minnesota Model.
Addiction is a disease with clinical features, genetics, natural history, response to treatment and biological markers.
The large MATCH study shows that AA keeps people sober over a long time period and abstinence from alcohol is strongly associated with involvement with AA
