"So many gods, so many creeds, so many paths that wind and wind while just the art of being kind is all the sad world needs."

"Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person's character lies in their own hands."

Yep, very true

According to billyw and the 12 steps doesn't god rebuild the rigorously honest and fearless AA member's character by removing the AA members "character defects". This god performs this miracle because the AA member has diligently done all 12 steps, prays and meditates and keeps coming back.

Why do AA members have to "keep coming back"?

Is the personal miracle god performs for each individual AA member a temporary miracle? Thus necessitating the need to come back?

LFOD, the stepper answer can be found here:

"It is easy to let up on the spiritual program of action and rest on our laurels. We are headed for trouble if we do, for alcohol is a subtle foe. We are not cured of alcoholism. What we really have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condi tion. Every day is a day when we must carry the vision of God’s will into all of our activities. “How can I best serve Thee—Thy will (not mine) be done.’’ These are thoughts which must go with us constantly. We can exercise our will power along this line all we wish. It is the proper use of the will." ~ Big Book page 85.

So it is a daily "miracle" then. That god guy sure is busy.

Exactly!! God performs miracles for steppers EVERY SINGLE DAY, FOR ALL OF THEM, EVERY TIME THEY WORK THE PROGRAM, yet He NEVER, NOT ONCE, FOR ANYONE, UNDER ANY CONDITION, performs the miracle of helping an amputee grow new limbs, nor does he EVER perform ANY other miracle that would be obviously miraculous and not explainable by mundane causes or events. THAT is the world steppers live in.

Is that a Shore of Faith?

I have seen people come into AA bruised battered and broken hearted. I have seen people leave AA bruised battered and broken hearted.

Are the AA members in meetings around the world making those around them happy?
