International House of Prayer in Kansas City (ihopkc.org) Mike Bickle describes the 7 Characteristics of Cults

Mike Bickle of the International House Of Prayer (IHOP) in Kansas City explains the biblical proficiencies of .... Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. . . . Matthew 7:15 and gives a complete course on identifying false prophets that come in the name of god making cults that draw away disciples from the church. While very long in length at 55.51 minutes, Mike Bickle describes how cults act and how they deceive people. Is Alcoholics Anonymous from the false prophet Bill Wilson, who is often practiced more often in many churches than the religion they were built for, part of a cult?

P.S. I believe that Alcoholics Anonymous meets all 7 of the cult criteria that Mike Bickle describes.

In all fairness it should be noted that the International House of Prayer was sued for copyright infringement by the International House of Pancakes (ihop.com), a late night favorite for many intoxicated members of local drinking establishments, but don't hold that against either of them.

#1 Opposing critical thinking instead of encouraging people to think for themselves
#2 Dishonoring the family unit instead of insisting on the biblical priority of the family unit
#3 Isolating members and penalizing them for leaving instead of helping them do God’s will
#4 Emphasizing special doctrines outside Scripture instead of loyalty to Scripture
#5 Seeking inappropriate loyalty to their leaders instead of connecting people to Jesus
#6 Crossing biblical boundaries of behavior instead of sexual purity and personal ownership
#7 Separation from the Church instead of a culture of honor towards the whole Church

Please also note that IHOP has also been called a cult, certainly a cult of personality. Bickle made headlines again in 2011 when he attended Texas Gov. Rick Perry's prayer festival. Several of his sermons have become popular online as soundbites of the weird variety. The one I remember in particular has him stating that Oprah Winfrey is the harbinger of the anti-christ.

On the other hand, when speaking of cults, he'd know!

Kind of like the cult of Alcoholics Anonymous members calling the Church of Scientology a cult?

Because of financial problems in churches, they are opening up more and more to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings to help pay the bills and many churches have about a 7 fold increase in worship to Bill Wilson over regular mass. Often proudly displaying the 12 commandments of Bill Wilson scrolls on their walls instead of the Ten Commandments, these churches are slowly being assimilated by Alcoholics Alcoholics World Services, Inc. (AAWS) at the Interchurch Center in New York. AA has all of the 7 traits that Mike Bickle warns about in his sermons.
